Jason Plato posted the quickest time for Racing Silverline as the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season resumed with the opening free practice session of the weekend at Snetterton.
At the wheel of newly-liveried Chevrolet Lacetti thanks to a new sponsorship deal for the RML-run outfit, Plato posted a quickest time of 1min 12.483secs to outpace the other three champions on the grid in the shape of James Thompson, Matt Neal and Fabrizio Giovanardi.
Andrew Jordan capped a strong start to the weekend for the factory Vauxhall team by going fifth quickest behind Neal and Giovanardi, while the top six was rounded out by championship leader Colin Turkington in his Team RAC BMW.
Harry Vaulkhard was seventh in his first session under the bamboo engineering banner, while Paul O'Neill rounded out the top eight in the lone sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed Honda Integra.
On his return to the championship, Gordon Shedden was 16th quickest at the wheel of his Cartridge World Carbon Zero Racing SEAT Leon, while the Scot's team-mate – Adam Jones – was the only driver not to set a time.
Joining Martyn Bell and Liam McMillan on the sidelines it the second Ford Focus ST of Team Aon – as raced so far this season by Alan Morrison and Tom Onslow-Cole.
