Turkington paces second practice at Snetterton

Championship leader Colin Turkington emerged as the man to beat during the second HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship free practice session at Snetterton.

The Team RAC driver, who carries a 25 point lead into the weekend, posted the quickest time of the weekend to date with a lap of 1min 12.434secs at the Norfolk venue which allowed him to outpace the man currently cloest to him in the championship standings – VX Racing's Matt Neal.

Neal's Vauxhall team-mate Fabrizio Giovanardi was third quickest ahead of James Thompson and Andrew Jordan, while Jason Plato – quickest in first practice – rounded out the top six. Plato however had looked good to possibly go quickest again before aborting a quick lap towards the end of the session.

Adam Jones hit the track for the first time after missing the opening session and was 13th quickest, but there were issues for both John George and Martin Johnson at the bottom of the times. George suffered clutch failure and was 18th while Johnson failed to set a representative lap time as the engine on his Vauxhall Astra dropped to three cylinders.
