Mat Jackson endured a mixed weekend as the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season resumed at Snetterton, with a podium in race one being followed by disappointment later in the day.
Jackson went into the weekend keen to bounce back from the tough weekend he endured at Croft prior to the summer break, when a bout of food poisoning forced him to withdraw from the race weekend.
With a new sponsor onboard for the weekend in the shape of Matchthedeal.com, the Racing Silverline ace was keen to impress at the wheel of his Chevrolet Lacetti and battled through from seventh on the grid to take a podium finish in race one.
However, Jackson was unable to build on that second place finish when he was forced to retire from race two with a gearbox problem while a steering issue meant he was unable to line-up on the grid for the final race of the weekend.
“It's all about keeping your nose clean and I managed to do that,” Jackson said of the opening race. “The Chevrolet had so much speed around Snetterton and with those two long straights it was great fun to drive. I wasn't going to be satisfied with a seventh-place finish so I went flat-out for that silverware and got it.
“Race two was particularly gutting. I was running in second and set for another top result. But that's racing. You just pick yourself up and look forward to the next round. I'll be concentrating on the positives: the Chevrolet is one of the quickest cars out there and we know what we can do when everything is running smoothly.”
