Further misfortune for Aon

3 August 2009

Team Aon endured another weekend of misfortune at Snetterton as Tom Chilton proved unable to break into the points as the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season resumed.

The mid-season break had seen the team continue to work on improving its Ford Focus ST, with modifications made to the engine, aerodynamics and rear suspension ahead of the second half of the campaign.

The team elected to run just a single car at Snetterton, with Tom Chilton restricted to 16th on the grid after an issue with the suspension during qualifying.

Chilton just missed out on a points finish in the opening race with eleventh and was running inside the top ten in race two before a broken spark plug forced him to retire. A further retirement then followed in race three after Chilton suffered a damaged oil cooler, but team boss Mike Earle said there were still positives to be taken from the weekend.

“For sure the results have been disappointing, but when we analyse the data there is some very encouraging evidence, as well as the positive feedback we're getting from Tom,” he said. “We still have some more developments to come, particularly with the engine and we will also be able to use the information from Snetterton to perfect the set-up of the new suspension. So we're looking forward to the next event at Knockhill in Scotland in two weeks time.”
