Thompson looks to sign off in style

James Thompson will be chasing a maiden victory at Knockhill this weekend as he prepares to bring the curtain down on his 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship campaign.

Despite picking up two championship titles during his time with Vauxhall, the Team Dynamics driver has never won at the Scottish circuit – a fact he will now look to put right on his final BTCC outing of the year before turning his focus to commitments already agreed elsewhere.

“I know I've led there before but maybe it's just not gone my way in the end,” he told the official series website btcc.net. “That's something I've got to put right this time around!

“I'm leaving the BTCC this weekend with a really heavy heart. The fans have been terrific, I've won three races and Team Dynamics who I've driven for have been superb. I've really enjoyed working with them as well as the atmosphere in the team. They've worked exceptionally hard to give me what I want and it would have been lovely to see it through but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

"It was ironic that in the most recent round at Snetterton we had the Honda at the strongest it has been in terms of outright pace yet we didn't come away with a podium due to a bit of bad luck. But the way they have got the car working now... it will be strong right to the end of the season."

Despite missing the opening rounds of the season at Brands Hatch, Thompson heads to Scotland lying sixth in the championship standings."
