Collard fit and ready for Knockhill outing

After the disappointment of Snetterton last time out, Rob Collard will hope to return to the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship podium as the series heads to Knockhill this weekend.

The Airwaves BMW driver saw his championship hopes effectively end in the final race at Snetterton, when a coming together with James Nash in the final race saw Collard spin off the circuit – before he was collected by Stephen Jelley's Team RAC entry.

The contact left both cars heavily damaged and forced Collard to take a short trip to hospital, where he was released without major injury.

Following a short family holiday, Collard will now return to the scene of one of his strongest showings of the 2008 season, with his focus firmly on fighting for a podium that would keen him in the running for a top three championship position.

“I'm fit and ready for the weekend and can't wait to get back in the BMW,” Collard said. “I was pretty sore after Snetterton, but I managed to get away for a break and after a few days went back to the gym and worked off the aches and strains, so now I'm really looking forward to going back to Knockhill.

“I've always enjoyed it in Scotland and scored some of the best results in my career there over the years. I stood on the podium at Knockhill last year when I finished second, and there's no reason why I can't be right up there again this season. I'm confident the BMW will be strong on this circuit and we'll be able to fight at the front of the field.

“Although I've had to concede winning the championship after what happened at the last round I can still finish right up there in third or fourth, so I want to push for some big results and add more wins to my tally for this season.

Not only will Collard look to improve his championship position, he will also do battle with team-mate Jonathan Adam in an 'England versus Scotland' battle on race day.

Adam will carry a Saltire across the roof of his BMW 320si while Collard will sport a St George's Cross. Each of Sunday's races will then count towards a 'Best of Three' shootout, with the winner receiving a prize selected by team principal David Bartrum at the end of the weekend.
