Nash to miss Knockhill

RML has revealed that James Nash will miss this weekend's HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship race meeting at Knockhill to focus on the remainder of the 2009 campaign.

Nash, who took a first win 'on the road' at Snetterton before later being excluded from the results following contact with Rob Collard, has elected to miss the trip to Scotland due to funding issues, with the youngster running to a limited budget this season.

Having decided to miss Knockhill, Nash will now look to secure a deal to contest at least two of the remaining race meetings before launching a full-season assault on the BTCC in 2010.

“I am disappointed to be missing Knockhill, because it's a circuit on which I have had some great races and the support from the locals is just fantastic – the atmosphere is always buzzing whatever the weather,” he said. “We've made some big improvements since my first race at Oulton Park, and as Snetterton proved, both myself and the car have the pace to challenge at the top and finish in the points.

“I can't wait to get back behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Lacetti, but unfortunately funding is limited, so we took the tough decision to miss Knockhill. We are doing absolutely all that we can with RML and our potential sponsors and partners to secure a deal for what I hope will be at least another two events this year. For me, the whole purpose of this season was to prove that I have the speed and capability to run at the front, and to aid the search for sponsors in order to complete the rest of the year and to launch a full 2010 BTCC campaign.

“I hope my results at Snetterton have shown all the teams and potential partners that I am a serious driver and can deliver on results and speed. My aim for the future is to demonstrate that Snetterton was just the start and not a one off. Judging by our performance there, I think it realistic to be aiming for more top five finishes and all being well, the top step of the podium. This year has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me, so I am committed to ending on a high.”
