Mat Jackson headed a Racing Silverline 1-2 in the opening free practice session for the latest rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill.
In wet conditions, Jackson posted a quickest time of 59.076secs to edge out team-mate Jason Plato as the Chevrolet impressed in the wet conditions that look set to affect the Scottish race weekend.
The Racing Silverline duo ended the session ahead of the quickest of the BMW drivers, with Jonathan Adam a solid third ahead of his home event, while Matt Neal was the quickest of the Vauxhall drivers in fourth. Rob Collard and the second of the Scottish drivers – Gordon Shedden – completed the top six. Neal however caused the session to be red-flagged earlier when he suffered a spin at Duffus Dip after the engine died on his Vectra.
Tom Chilton was an encouraging seventh in the Team Aon Ford Focus as the Arena-run outfit continues to work on developing the car, while Fabrizio Giovanardi, James Thompson and Colin Turkington completed the top ten; championship leader Turkington working on set-up on his Team RAC car.
Elsewhere, there was an impressive twelfth quickest for Martin Johnson who was less than a second off the outright pace in his Vauxhall Astra, although the other two BTC-spec cars ran into problems with Paul O'Neill managing just nine laps after damaging his front splitter on the sunshine.co.uk Honda Integra and John George also damaging his splitter as well as the rear of his car after going off at the Chicane.
