Jason Plato kept Racing Silverline on top after edging out Gordon Shedden in the second HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship free practice session of the weekend at Knockhill.

With the circuit conditions improving throughout, Plato posted a quickest time of 54.184secs to put his Chevrolet top on what was his final lap, edging out Shedden's Cartridge World SEAT Leon by just 0.003secs.

With a flurry of quick laps coming right at the end of the session, Matt Neal slotted into third for VX Racing ahead of the BMW of Jonathan Adam, while title rivals Colin Turkington and Fabrizio Giovanardi rounded out the top six.

Mat Jackson, pace-setter in the first session, was seventh, while James Thompson, Andrew Jordan and Rob Collard rounded out the top ten.

Just outside the top ten, Tom Chilton was eleventh but was again closer to the pace in his Ford Focus while Harry Vaulkhard in twelfth was the final driver within a second of the quickest time.

The session was stopped briefly when Dave Pinkney suffered a spin off track at Clark, while Martin Johnson and Jordan also had a brief coming together on track.

Stephen Jelley meanwhile failed to set a time during the best of the conditions after his car returned to the pits trailing smoke.
