Colin Turkington said he was pleased with his results during the seventh round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at
Knockhill, despite seeing
Fabrizio Giovanardi close to within nine points in the race for the 2009 title.
Turkington went into the weekend leading the defending champion by 17 points, and was able to extend his advantage to 20 points with a fourth placed finish in race one.
However, Giovanardi was then able to finish ahead of Turkington in both the second and third races to bring the gap back down to nine points, although the Team RAC man admitted he was still pleased with the weekend.
"It can be a rough ride at
Knockhill and I very nearly got the measure of Fabrizio in race three,” he said. “But even though he just kept ahead of me in that one I'm still very happy with my results here. Sure, he's closed the gap, but I've limited the damage and next come what, on paper, are slightly more predictable circuits with
Silverstone, Rockingham and
Brands Hatch.”
Turkington also admitted he didn't see the title battle as just a two-horse race and was wary about the challenge of
Jason Plato and
Matt Neal through the remaining nine races.
“Fabrizio and I have moved that wee bit further ahead of the rest again,” he said, “but I'm still not ruling out Jason and Matt coming back into it."
