Mat Jackson saw his run of HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship podiums finally come to an end at Rockingham, although the Racing Silverline driver was able to come away from the weekend with an enviable record of eight podium finishes from the past nine races.

Jackson, a double winner at Silverstone, qualified third on the grid at the wheel of his Chevrolet Lacetti and was able to finish on the podium for the seventh straight race despite losing out to the fast-starting BMW of Stephen Jelley – the eventual race winner – off the line.

Jackson then battled ahead of team-mate Jason Plato at the start of race two and took the lead from Stephen Jelley shortly after a mid-race Safety Car period. Having held the lead until the late stages of the race, Jackson then saw Plato take the lead and settled for second place; giving him a record eighth straight podium in the process.

His hopes of adding to the that tally in race three were hit by contact from Fabrizio Giovanardi, which dropped the Chevrolet down the order, but Jackson battled back strongly to take the flag in fifth place – lifting him to fourth in the championship standings at the end of the weekend.

“The car is firing on all cylinders, the team are working wonders and I think I'm doing a pretty decent job, too,” he said. “Rockingham is quite tough. Through the mid section there are an awful lot of tight twisty corners, so you're always on it.

“It was disappointing not to win race two but at least I kept up my run of podiums and Jason maximised his points. The final race of the day was something of a bun fight. Once I'd been pushed off the red mist fell and I fought back to fifth which was good, but I think I could have had another podium.”
