No nerves for Turkington – yet

Colin Turkington admits he isn't yet feeling the nerves as he prepares for his biggest weekend to date in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.

The Team RAC driver will go into the season finale next weekend on the famed Brands GP circuit holding a lead of 13 points over defending champion Fabrizio Giovanardi as he seeks to secure a maiden overall crown.

Turkington has already taken six wins this season, but hasn't tasted victory since Snetterton as he focuses on maintaining his advantage at the head of the field.

For a while, it looked like that advantage would disappear last time out at Rockingham, but problems for Giovanardi in the final race ensured Turkington will hold a slender lead into Finals Day as he looks to add the overall crown to the Independents' title he claimed provisionally last time out.

“The nerves haven't set in as yet, although I'm sure I'll feel slightly differently when it comes to race weekend,” Turkington admitted. “Having said that, a bit of pressure isn't always a bad thing.

“The last race at Rockingham could turn out to be crucial. Sometimes you need a bit of luck and it was good to out-score both Fabrizio and Jason Plato. I'm glad to have a le ad going into the final round, but anything can happen.

“I should by more competitive in qualifying than I was at Rockingham. If I can get the car near the front of the grid I think I'll have a great chance. The team have been brilliant all year, and hopefully I can win it for them.”
