After title winning success in both the Renault Clio Cup and the SEAT Cupra Championship, 2009 saw Jonathan Adam finally get the chance to make the step into the BTCC.
Securing a plum drive with Motorbase Performance – running under the Airwaves BMW banner for the 2009 campaign – big things were expected from the Scottish driver and he hit the ground running in the opening weekend of the season at Brands Hatch.
Victory first time out appeared to have gone his way until a post-race penalty for contact with Jason Plato in the third race saw him demoted to second place – which would prove to be his best result of the season.
Although Thruxton would be a disappointment as Adam failed to score from the weekend, he was able to pick up a second podium finish by Oulton Park.
While the win he craved proved to be elusive, Adam showed he wasn't scared to battle with the most experienced names through the second half of the season and failed to score only once following the mid-season break.
It was enough to see him end the year as the top rookie driver in the points and saw you vote him eighth in the driver of the year rankings.
