Team Aon has continued its pre-season testing programme by running its Ford Focus on LPG.

Tom Chilton spent two days testing the car at the Guadix circuit in Spain as the Arena-run team evaluates a possible switch to alternative fuel for the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season, while Tom Onslow-Cole rejoined the team to drive the sister petrol-powered machine.

"Obviously we're always looking for anything which could provide us with a competitive edge," team boss Mike Earle said. "Also in these economically difficult times we have to consider any commercial benefits as well. In both of these areas LPG may be an option for us, but it's early days in our evaluation process.

"An engine has been running on the dyno, but this is the first time we've tried it in the car. After running it for two days the results have been encouraging, but not conclusive."

Onslow-Cole's run in the petrol car came as he works towards putting a deal together to race with Arena again this season and he admitted that the car had improved over the machine he raced in the 2009 season finale at Brands Hatch.

"The car was good at the end of last season, but now it's incredible," he said. "I can't believe how much work the team has done over the winter. All the development has not only made the Focus quicker, the way it handles now is a race driver's dream and that makes it great fun."

Team Aon will continue back-to-back testing of the two cars in the UK in the coming weeks.
