Motorbase retains Airwaves backing

19 March 2010

Motorbase Performance has revealed that it will continue to run under the Airwaves BMW banner for the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season after re-signing a deal with the Wrigley's owned brand.

The team had revealed back in November that it would be forced to look for a new title sponsor after Wrigley's elected to end its involvement due to the 'evolving focus of its business' but a new deal has now been agreed to continue the relationship into a second season.

Leyland Paints will also continue to act as a co-sponsor for the team, which is expected to reveal an impressive driver line-up at the annual Media Day at Brands Hatch next week.

“When we introduced Wrigley's Airwaves to the BTCC last year we were ecstatic to have secured such a hugely recognisable brand as our title sponsor,” team boss David Bartrum said. “People see Airwaves as the chewing gum that helps you 'Kick up a gear' and this association, as well as the brand's support, is of massive benefit to us. It's great news for the championship that brands like Airwaves and Leyland Paints feel it is the place to be!

“Our original plan was to run a BTCC newcomer alongside an experienced driver, in the same way that we brought Steven Kane and Jonathan Adam to touring cars over the past couple of years. I'm not sure it will quite work out like that now - as things stand today, we might even go one better.”

Motorbase ran Adam alongside Rob Collard last season, although the latter has moved back to West Surrey Racing for the 2010 campaign.
