Triple Eight names Glew for 2010

Triple Eight confirms Phil Glew for the 2010 BTCC season
Triple Eight has confirmed that Clio Cup champion Phil Glew will be one of its drivers for the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season.

The team, which ran the works Vauxhall team prior to the manufacturer quitting the series at the end of 2009, had entered two cars into the new season but hadn't named drivers – with Glew now confirmed in the first seat.

Glew tested the Vauxhall Vectra at Rockingham earlier this month and will now make his BTCC bow in the season opener at Thruxton.

“I am over the moon to finally get my chance to move into the BTCC after such a successful season last year and especially with such a prestigious team as Triple Eight Race Engineering,” he said. “I tested for the team two weeks ago and was blown away by how professional they were and I knew straight away that this was the place for me. We had to work really hard since the test to put a deal together with the team and I am delighted that my current sponsors WD-40 and 3-IN-ONE as well as new sponsor, paint company – Glasurit will be supporting us for the 2010 BTCC season.

“I am extremely excited about making my debut at Thruxton, but it is going to be a steep learning curve especially with no opportunity to test the car. I am going to be thrown right at the deep end and will have to make the most of the two free practice sessions on Saturday morning, but I am looking forward to the challenge and learning from Triple Eight's experience as the season unfolds.”

Team boss Ian Harrison was quick to welcome the youngster into the team.

“I'm really pleased to have Phil onboard the Vectra this season,” he said. “Although he will be starting with very little preparation time, his track record in Clio's will stand him in good stead.”

Excellent choice, Glew proved himself in Clio's and Formula BMW and will be a great BTCC contender. The comment above is strange as Glew has always been judged on talent not money.

It was reported last October in my local paper that Phil Glew was aiming to enter the BTCC this year! So to some of us its no surprise! Yes Phil Glew is bringing money to the Triple Eight camp! But lets face it, if he had no talent he wouldn't be able to bring his previous sponsors money with him! edge.co.uk who sponsor him also are an essex based company and their managing director Andrew Riley has been speaking to the Media locally for 6 months and the deal has now been done!! As for Giovanardi? No chance of him being in their other Vectra! More likely to be Nick Leason or Dean Smith!
