Shedden: We’ve shown we’re quick

6 April 2010

Gordon Shedden was left to rue a race one tyre failure at Thruxton after missing out on a win in the opening rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season.

The Honda driver qualified on pole for the season opener and led the opening race until a tyre failure saw him run off track into the barriers at Church.

With his car repaired for race two, Shedden took the chequered flag just outside the points in eleventh place and then battled through the field to fourth place in race three to score his first top ten finish of the year.

While disappointed to have missed out on a possible win earlier in the day, Shedden admitted he was pleased by the pace shown by the Civic – which has undergone a number of revisions over the winter.

“We were baffled as to why the tyre let go, but it damaged my car a lot,” he said. “It is a testament to the team that they were able to get me back out on to the grid in just over an hour.

“Once we'd bolted a race set-up on the car for the final race of the weekend, it was flying and if I had started further up, I really think I could have won. It was a difficult weekend because we should have had a couple of victories, but we have proved that the car is going to be a front-runner.”
