Andy Jordan showed the potential of his new Pirtek Racing Vauxhall Vectra at Thruxton although the youngster was left empty handed following the opening rounds of the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season.
Running with his new NGTC engine for the first time in a racing environment, Jordan qualified a solid fourth on the grid in wet weather conditions, although his hopes of a strong result in race one were ended by contact with the Ford of Tom Onslow-Cole.
Having finished the first race down in 14th as a result of a visit to the pits, Jordan battled through the field to fifth in race two before a puncture again saw him drop out of the points while a misfire forced him to start the final race from the pits.
Reporting a loss of power when the race got underway, Jordan was forced to visit the pits for the third successive race and took the flag in 14th, leaving him pointless from the weekend.
However, despite the disappointment, Jordan insisted there were still positives to take from the weekend.
“Today is one of those days where you really have to focus on the positives,” he said. “We were so strong all weekend, the speed was there and the team worked exceptionally well, it's just disappointing we didn't achieve the results to reflect our potential.
“Thruxton is notorious for tyre wear but our issue in the second race was a puncture which was seemingly caused by debris on the track and not by excessive wearing, which is frustrating because I feel we could have been on for a podium. The engine issue we had at the start of the final race was caused by a loose wire in the turbo, which really put us on the back foot, again we could've had a strong points result because we were consistently the fastest car on track each lap after our stop.”
Jordan added that he now heads to Rockingham next time out keen to get his championship challenge underway.
“The package has shown it is very quick and we're confident that we are a front-running team,” he said. “We will aim to secure three solid points results at Rockingham to really kick off our championship campaign from there.”
