Matt Neal posted the quickest time for Honda during free practice for the second round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Rockingham.
The double champion set his quickest lap during the second session of the morning at the Northamptonshire venue, setting a best time of 1min 23.626secs at the wheel of his Honda Civic to edge out long-time rival Jason Plato
– the Chevrolet driver eventually ending the session just 0.054secs.
Tom Chilton – quickest in the first session of the weekend – was third fastest in Team Aon's LPG-powered Ford Focus ahead of team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole, the second Honda of Gordon Shedden
and James Nash's Vauxhall. Sixth overall, Nash was an impressive fourth fastest in the second session of the day in his first race weekend with Triple Eight.
Andrew Jordan and Alex MacDowall set the same time to end practice seventh and eighth, with Mat Jackson
and Steven Kane
rounding out the top ten for Airwaves BMW.
Jackson was one of the drivers to run into issues on Saturday morning, with oil cooler issues in both sessions, while Plato lost time during the morning with a sensor problem. Martin Johnson suffered a misfire during FP1 which left him at the bottom of the times, while the opening session was briefly red-flagged when Matt Hamilton suffered a spin into the barriers exiting Gracelands.
Arthur Forster, in the lone Forster Motorsport entry this weekend, ended practice with the 19th quickest time as the team prepares for its BTCC debut.
