Pinkney counts cost of Rockingham shunt

Pinkney Motorsport faces up to the challenge of repairing Rockingham damage in time for Brands Hatch
David Pinkney's Pinkney Motorsport team is working hard to prepare for the upcoming Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting at Brands Hatch following a disappointing race weekend at Rockingham.

The team headed to the Rockingham keen to build on the triple points finish secured during the season opener at Thruxton, but instead came away from the weekend with work to do after Pinkney was involved in an incident in the final race

Pinkney qualified 13th on the grid at the wheel of his Vauxhall Vectra but lost out in the opening race after electing to start on wet tyres following morning rain. Forced to pit mid-race for new tyres, he dropped to the rear of the field and was unable to make up places despite lapping strongly on slick tyres.

After finishing 16th in race two, Pinkney headed into race three looking to secure a top ten finish and made a strong start before being hit by the Honda of Matt Hamilton as he turned into the right hander at Chapman. The contact saw the Vectra go into the side of Alex MacDowall's Chevrolet – putting both cars out and leaving the team with work to do to repair the damage in time for Brands Hatch this weekend.

“It ultimately proved to be a disappointing weekend,” team manager Andrew Dean said. “The car showed some good pace when we switched to slick tyres in the opening race but things didn't end up the way we wanted them to when David was taken out of race three.

“You never want to come away from a weekend with a lot of damage to repair, but especially not when there is only a week between races. There is always a risk that you can get caught up in an accident, but with such a short turnaround between Rockingham and Brands Hatch, you'd hope people would drive with their heads.

“Instead there is a lot to be done in a short space of time and the team is working hard to repair the damage in time for this weekend.”
