Off the back of an encouraging outing at Rockingham last weekend, Andrew Jordan is optimistic that Brands Hatch – scene of round three of the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend – will play to the strengths of Pirtek Racing's Vauxhall Vectra and allow the NGTC engine to really come into its own.
Having proven to be fast but luckless in the Thruxton curtain-raiser, Jordan notched up a trio of solid points-scoring finishes at Rockingham to move up the championship table – and indeed had he not gambled wrongly on tyre choice in the wet/dry first race there, he might have come away with his first rostrum finish of the campaign to-boot.
Not to worry, the 20-year-old contends – there will be plenty more opportunities for that around Brands Hatch's GP layout, a track that he palpably enjoys and at which he finished a strong fourth last year and will be able to count upon a wealth of sponsor support.
“Brands is a high-speed, highly-technical circuit with several cambered corners,” Jordan explained, “so it can be a challenge to get the right set-up on the car to suit the track. The tight high-speed corners combined with the long back straight will make this circuit one which will suit the turbo power of our NGTC engine.
“We were competitive at Brands last year, and after the speed shown in the last two rounds we have to be confident we will be able to challenge at the front once again. We improved in every race at Rockingham and we are certainly hoping that we can continue that improvement this weekend. The aim will be to achieve an overall podium and an Independent Class win.
“Brands Hatch is the nearest to a home circuit for Pirtek UK, who are based at Acton. We have a lot of guests coming along this weekend to cheer us on, and I hope we can go out there and get the results to thank them for their support.”
