Tom Chilton led the way for Team Aon as the third round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season kicked off at Brands Hatch.
Around the GP circuit where he came close to taking a first win for the Ford Focus in the 2009 season finale, Chilton posted a quickest time of 1min 32.651secs early on in the session and remained out front throughout, with Andrew Jordan the only other driver to lap below the 1min 33secs marker.
The Pirtek Racing driver's late lap ensured turbo-powered cars locked out the top two places on the times.
James Nash was third quickest in his Triple Eight-entered Vectra – running in a bare black livery this weekend – while David Pinkney was fourth in the second Vauxhall fitted with the NGTC engine.
Honda pairing Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden were fifth and sixth ahead of the BMWs of Rob Collard and Mat Jackson, with the second Ford of Tom Onslow-Cole and the leading Chevrolet of Alex MacDowall rounding out the top ten.
Points leader Jason Plato was only 15th after an oil pressure issue forced him to return to the pits, with the Chevrolet team now set to change the engine on his Cruze ahead of FP2. Steven Kane was another driver in the wars as he ended the session in 22nd and last place while Motorbase worked on his BMW 320si.
Newcomers Lea Wood and Martin Depper were 19th and 20th on the times ahead of their BTCC debuts this weekend.
