For the second successive season, Tom Chilton has secured pole on the Brands Hatch GP circuit after leading the way in qualifying for the third round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Chilton blitzed the field with a best lap of 1min 31.604secs at the wheel of his Team Aon Ford Focus, beating the qualifying lap record by just under a second, to take his second pole position of the season having also snared top spot last weekend at Rockingham.

"We dominated the two practice sessions and now qualifying so it's all going to plan and I'm particularly delighted with that time," he said. "Provided I start well tomorrow I believe we can go on and do the same in tomorrow's three races. I want to win the lot."

Chilton will share the front row of the grid with the Honda of Gordon Shedden, although the Scot was nearly half a second behind in second place, with James Nash and Matt Neal more than eight tenths of a second off the pace on row two.

Rob Collard starts fifth on the grid in the top BMW on the grid while Alex MacDowall outqualified team-mate Jason Plato for the second successive race weekend to start sixth.

Plato will start one place further back in seventh ahead of the Vauxhall of Andrew Jordan, although hi s session ended in the barriers at Clark after the Pirtek Racing man ran wide late on in the session. Tom Onslow-Cole and Paul O'Neill round out the top ten, although for Onslow-Cole it was a case of what might have been after his car failed the ride height while lying third on the times.

Tom Boardman starts eleventh ahead of Dave Pinkney, who joined the session late after his team was forced to rebuild the gearbox on his car after second practice, while Airwaves BMW duo Mat Jackson and Steven Kane have work to do from 13th and 14th on the grid.
