Jordan: Adversity will only make Pirtek stronger

Pirtek Racing star Andrew Jordan is surely due a change of luck as the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship arrives at Croft - a circuit at which he is convinced his NGTC-powered Vauxhall Vectra will shine
Andrew Jordan has insisted that despite a seemingly endless run of ill-fortune, Pirtek Racing remains entirely focussed on its goals and is determined to notch up a podium finish when the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship takes to the track at Croft this weekend.

Jordan has been on the pace at every circuit the BTCC has visited thus far this season, but a whole host of issues, incidents and sheer bad luck have seen to it that the 21-year-old has scored points in only five of the twelve races to-date, and has yet to reach the rostrum.

Oulton Park last time out was a particular nadir, as the Sutton Coldfield ace notched up a brace of DNFs due to technical woes and a lowly 16th-place – meaning he arrives at Croft languishing down in twelfth spot in the title standings. It is a situation he is palpably desperate to change.

“We know right now we have a good car under us, probably the best we've had all season and still improving,” Jordan asserted of his Vauxhall Vectra. “When we were on-track at Oulton we had a great competitive pace, and without problems we could have been running at the front. Sometimes you have tough weekends in racing, but that then makes the success even sweeter when you achieve it.

“The team has been working hard, and we have ensured that we've focussed any frustrations we had on making sure we can achieve a strong result next time out. Last year at Croft I was the quickest of the Vauxhalls in qualifying and I had a fastest lap in one of the races, so I know we can run well.

“There are some quick corners out the back of the track which are mixed with a slow-speed complex at the end which requires you to be disciplined and smooth with your driving. I think the power of the TOCA engine will come into play in the hairpin at the last corner, where the torque of the turbo engine will benefit us and give us a good sling-shot to the line – and it would be great to head into the six-week summer break with a good haul of points and a renewed vigour for the second half of the year.”
