Jordan promises no resting on his laurels
4 August 2010
The 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship campaign resumes at Snetterton this weekend following a six-week summer break – and Pirtek Racing star Andrew Jordan will be bidding to pick back up again from precisely where he left off, having achieved his breakthrough series triumph in the last outing at Croft.
Jordan's dominant lights-to-flag success in Yorkshire was ultra-impressive, and memories are still fresh indeed for the 21-year-old approaching Snetterton, around whose high-speed layout he and Pirtek enjoyed a productive test day a fortnight ago.
The Staffordshire-born ace lapped sixth-quickest during the morning session as the team worked hard on development of the Vauxhall Vectra and its turbo-powered TOCA engine in preparation for the Norfolk circuit's long straights. Technical issues unfortunately cut short the day's running, meaning Jordan was unable to participate in the afternoon session, but still Pirtek are returning east confident in their potential.
“The last few weeks have been great for us,” enthused the newest addition to the BTCC winners' club. “We've had time to reflect on the win and how far we've come as a new team with Pirtek on-board this season, as well as time to continue development of the car.
“We felt at the beginning of the year it would take us a few races to get to grips with the set-up of the new engine, and now with the win behind us we have the momentum for the rest of the season. We're only halfway through with five race weekends still to go, and there are still plenty of points up for grabs.
“I've run well at Snetterton in the past and I quite enjoy racing at the circuit; it's a really fast, flowing track with huge long straights, which give you some really good action. I think the power of the engine could work well for us there, but we will keep our fingers crossed for cooler weather because the heat affects the performance of the turbo engine as well as how well we use our tyres during the races. I think we are in for a good weekend, though, and we certainly won't be resting on our laurels.”
