Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship ace Tom Onslow-Cole thinks this weekend's three rounds at Silverstone will edge him closer to his dream of lifting the prestigious crown.

The Calor Gas-backed driver comes to the meeting fourth in the standings but has his sights set on narrowing the gap to those ahead.

He will drive his liquefied petroleum gas-powered Team Aon Ford Focus around a circuit he admits to enjoying.

"It's a great track and it is one that I think will play to the strengths of my Ford Focus," explained the New Malden man. "We are only using the short layout but that means the cars stay tightly bunched together which always makes for some great close racing. It is always tough there."

Onslow-Cole's Focus was pegged back by series officials during the last meeting at Snetterton but the 23-year-old says that he still expects to be a major force around the Northamptonshire track, the scene for the seventh event of the BTCC season.

"We have been working on improvements in all areas of the car and they will benefit us here. There are two big braking zones at Silverstone that could prove tricky but I am sure the gains we have made will push us on in other areas," he continued.

"The key for me is going to be qualifying. It is important to start race one near the front so we have a fighting chance right from the off. I am confident I can get on to the front couple of rows, and we can build from there."

"What is also important for me is three strong finishes," he added. "You need to score well in every round to maintain a charge for the title - two finishes out of three will not be good enough. If we can make sure we see the chequered flag in all of the races we should come away with some good points and in a good championship position."
