MacDowall tops Knockhill times
4 September 2010
Alex MacDowall prevented Gordon Shedden from claiming a home pole after topping the times in qualifying for the latest rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill.
The Chevrolet driver beat Darren Turner's qualifying lap record en-route to his second pole in the three last races, with his best time of 53.001secs being good enough to edge out Shedden in the race for top spot.
The Scot had to settle for second place having earlier led the way in both free practice sessions, while title contenders Matt Neal and Jason Plato share the second row of the grid.
Steven Kane was fifth quickest in the first of the Airwaves BMWs with Paul O'Neill sixth for Team sunshine.co.uk, while Tom Chilton was also within two-tenths of a second of pole in seventh in the leading LPG-powered Ford Focus.
Tom Onslow-Cole was eighth fastest in the sister car while the top ten was completed by Rob Collard and Andrew Jordan.
James Nash was eleventh ahead of Mat Jackson, who suffered driveshaft, with Dave Pinkney, John George, Tom Boardman, debutant Jeff Smith, Andy Neate and Shaun Hollamby rounding out the 18 car grid.
