Shedden leads Donington practice

18 September 2010

Gordon Shedden posted the quickest time for Honda in the two Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship free practice sessions at a re-opened Donington Park.

Running on a slightly revised layout at the East Midlands circuit following changes to the final chicane at Goddards, Shedden set the benchmark time with a lap of 1min 11.341secs in the second session – which put him two-tenths of a second clear of Chevrolet's Jason Plato.

Plato had earlier set the pace in the first session of the weekend, despite maximum ballast on his Cruze thanks to his position as championship leader.

Tom Onslow-Cole was third quickest in the first of the LPG-powered Fords but was nearly half a second down on Shedden, with the top six completed by Matt Neal, Tom Chilton and Alex MacDowall.

Top BMW honours went to Mat Jackson in seventh, with Andrew Jordan, Steven Kane and James Nash rounding out the top ten. The returning James Kaye ended up with the 14th quickest.

The sessions weren't without problems though for a number of drivers, with the worst luck being reserved for the returning Martin Depper. His Forster Motorsport BMW dropped a cylinder just a lap into the morning session and is out of the remainder of the weekend as a result.

John George caused a brief stoppage in the first session when he went into the gravel at the Old Hairpin, while Rob Collard and Shaun Hollamby suffered mechanical problems during the second session which restricted their time on track.
