Shedden: No pressure on me

Gordon Shedden says there is no pressure as he looks to take the BTCC title for the first time
Gordon Shedden insists he is feeling no pressure as he looks to become the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion.

The Honda Racing driver is 21 points behind Jason Plato going into the final round of the year at Brands Hatch as he looks to join fellow Scot's Jim Clark and John Cleland on the list of BTCC title winners.

The season finale will mark the first time that Shedden has arrived at the final round of the year in contention for the title but with two drivers ahead of him in the standings, Shedden said he wasn't feeling the pressure.

“There is no pressure on me,” he said. “My mindset is that I have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.

“Saturday's qualifying session could really have an affect on what happens in the three races on Sunday – Brands Indy is a short lap and it'll only take a tenth of a second to make the difference between starting on the front row and row five. Bear in mind Jason in particular will have a lot of success ballast in that Chevrolet. That could be those vital fractions of a second…”

Shedden added that he was realistic enough to know that he needed to take at least one win from the weekend to keep his hopes alive and he vowed to keep pushing hard until the title is mathematically impossible.

“I know that I need to win at least one of the races to be in with a chance of the title, so that will be my initial aim,” he said. “After that, it depends on what happens to the others. The Civic is going to be one of the fastest cars at Brands Hatch but the racing there is always so close that it is going to be very hard to call. I am not going to give up on the title until it is mathematically impossible. All the time there is a chance, I will be giving it full throttle to keep the dream alive.”
