Honda extends 'works' commitment into 2011

8 October 2010

On the eve of the 2010 season finale, Honda has confirmed its commitment to the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, with the announcement that it will continue to field two Team Dynamics-prepared Civics.

The Honda Racing Team will again compete in the UK's premier motor racing series next year as a full 'works' entry as it prolongs a successful partnership with the West Midlands-based Dynamics company, with whom the Japanese manufacturer has secured the 2010 BTCC manufacturers' crown.

Dynamics and Neil Brown Engineering have already begun development of a two-litre turbocharged Honda engine that will meet the BTCC's new 'NGTC' technical regulations for 2011.

“After another positive year of racing, we are delighted to commit to the BTCC for 2011,” revealed David Hodgetts, Honda (UK) managing director. “Almost 90 per cent of the Honda cars we sell in this country are built in the UK, so we believe it's important to support a national championship. We can't wait to get back on-track next year with another competitive Civic race car!”

It has indeed been an ultra-successful 2010 for Honda in the BTCC, with the team racing to 22 podiums and five race victories each for Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden, and it travels to Brands Hatch this weekend leading the HiQ Teams' standings, and with both Neal and Shedden still in with a shout of lifting the drivers' laurels, too.

“We are really pleased that Honda is giving us the opportunity to continue to run its team in the 2011 BTCC,” added Team Dynamics team principal Steve Neal. “To gain the endorsement of Honda is testament to the hard work put in by our team and, of course, the results achieved. We know that results matter, and we expect to be challenging for championship honours once again next season.

“We know we have a beautifully-balanced car in the Civic, and the race engineering 'know-how' to maximise the benefit of the extra power the new regulations bring.”

Drivers and sponsors for next season are expected to be announced in due course.
