Jordan surprised by final victory

Andrew Jordan admitted he was surprised to come away from the final rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with a second victory of the 2010 season.
The Pirtek Racing driver had only managed eleventh on the grid after a problem with his engine during qualifying, which the team worked to replace overnight.
An alternator issue in the closing stages of race one restricted Jordan to ninth in race one, although he battled up to seventh in race two – which then saw him secure pole for the season finale thanks to the reverse grid draw.
Maintaining his lead at the start, Jordan survived two Safety Car periods to keep the BMW of Steven Kane behind and ended the campaign with his second win of the year – the first having come at Croft prior to the summer break.
“I'm so surprised that we have come away from the final race with another win,” he said. “We have been struggling with the car this weekend and going into the last race I wasn't confident we had the pace to keep Kane behind us - but we were still aiming for a podium.
“The car was better in the final race than in the previous two. We had been scratching our heads earlier in the day working out which way to head on set up - we made some unusual changes because Brands Hatch is a unique circuit - the short and twisty nature hurts our tyres more because we carry the extra weight of the Turbo engine over the front wheels. In contrast, the BMW's look after their tyres, so I'm just thrilled we could keep them behind and win the race.
“To end the season this way is fantastic. We have had a mixed year but when the chips are down the Pirtek team just work even harder and we are lucky to have such a dedicated team behind us. We have had fantastic support from Pirtek and CBT and without them we wouldn't be here so I thank them for their backing this year. Fingers crossed we'll be back in 2011 to mount a challenge on the Independent Championship and fight for more wins.”
