Solid end for MacDowall at Brands Hatch

Alex MacDowall fights hard but misses out on a top ten finish in the BTCC standings at Brands Hatch
Silverline Chevrolet driver Alex MacDowall ended his maiden season in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with a solid performance at Brands Hatch, although he just missed out on a top ten championship finish after drama on race day.

Qualifying a fourth on the grid for the first race, just behind title contenders Gordon Shedden, Matt Neal and team-mate Jason Plato, MacDowall bounced back from being forced wide at Paddock Hill Bend on the opening lap to fight his way back up to fourth at the finish.

That moved him clear of Andrew Jordan in the fight for tenth in the championship although there was disappointment in race two as he was forced wide by Neal at Druids on the opening lap and dripped to the rear of the field.

Attempting to fight back up the order, MacDowall was forced to retire when contact with Lea Wood left him with damaged power steering.

MacDowall then battled to eleventh in the final race although victory for Jordan in the race allowed him to take tenth in the standings.

Although there was disappointment at missing out on the position, MacDowall insisted he was happy with the way his season had gone as he raced alongside new champion Plato in his debut campaign.

“It's been a fantastic year and an absolute privilege to race for Silverline Chevrolet alongside a great driver like Jason,” he said. “There have been some really good highlights, especially my pole positions and podiums, but we have had some bad luck too. Congratulations to Jason though.

“The team has been great, they've worked really hard all year and the Cruze is an incredible touring car. I've learned so much in my first season and although I'd have liked to have ended it in the top ten in the championship, we gave it a great shot this weekend. I think I've shown I deserve to be in the BTCC so I hope we can be back next year.”
