10 – Mat Jackson
Mat Jackson's return to a BMW had people expecting big things for the 2010 BTCC season, but it would ultimately turn out to be a difficult season for the man who finished second in the standings in 2008 – the last time he had raced the rear-wheel drive car.
Having joined Airwaves BMW, Jackson started the year well with a double podium at Thruxton and took his first win of the year on the Brands Hatch GP circuit where he held on while using wet tyres on a drying track to beat Matt Neal to victory. However, it was to be his only win of the campaign…
Although he scored points on 23 occasions, just six of those were inside the top three and he ended the year down in seventh place in the standings – two places lower than he managed in 2009, where he missed the opening round.
While he stayed in contention for the Independents title until the final round, fourth in the Indy standings was also less than he had hoped for at the start of the year.
Jackson will hope that 2011 sees him back on form and fighting at the front.
