Tech-Speed tests Cruze at Brands Hatch

9 March 2011

Tech-Speed Motorsport appears set to switch to Chevrolet Cruzes for the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season after 2010 driver pairing Paul O'Neill and John George tested the car at Brands Hatch.

The team has campaigned Honda Integras for the past two seasons under the Team sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed banner and punched above its weight on a number of occasions last year as O'Neill took the older BTC-spec car to a number of podium finishes.

While there has yet to be any official announcement from the team about its plans for the year ahead, the appearance of the Cruze – running in a plain purple livery – would appear to reveal it will switch to the car that carried Jason Plato to the 2010 drivers title.

“It's very exciting to be spending a day testing not just a race-winning but the title-winning car from last year, particularly for myself and Tech-Speed – we've been together for many years and have always run a small but very efficient set-up that has produced some terrific results with competitive but older-spec cars,” O'Neill told the official BTCC website btcc.net

"But here, finally, we're getting a chance to see what we can do with not just the very latest type of car but arguably the best there is with the Cruze. So many people are trying to ensure this all goes ahead and the sponsors including sunshine.co.uk are being massively supportive – fingers crossed things all come together as it's got all the makings of a magical season for us.”

Tech-Speed are one of a number of teams testing at Brands Hatch, with RML appearing on track for the first time this season with Jason Plato and Alex MacDowall and Team Aon giving a debut to its 2011-spec Ford Focus.
