Neal tops Snetterton times

Matt Neal quickest for Honda on a day of unofficial BTCC testing at Snetterton
Matt Neal posted the quickest time on a day of unofficial Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship testing at Snetterton.

The test marked the first chance for a number of teams to sample the new Snetterton 300 layout for the first time ahead of its maiden appearance on the schedule later in the year, with Neal becoming the only man all day to break the 1m 59s marker at the wheel of his Honda Civic.

It was the first chance Neal and the Honda Racing team had been able to complete meaningful running of the car with its new Neil Brown-developed NGTC engine after a shakedown session was held at Brands Hatch last week.

Mat Jackson, who had earlier set the pace during the morning session, improved on his time during the afternoon but had to settle for second place in his Airwaves Racing Ford Focus, while the 'Global' Ford Focus of Tom Chilton slotted into third having ended the morning's running – which was delayed by an hour due to fog – down the timesheets in sixth.

Paul O'Neill, in the first car running in S2000 specification, was fourth fastest for Tech-Speed as he continued to evaluate the new Chevrolet Cruze while Andrew Jordan's Vauxhall Vectra and the leading BMW of Rob Collard completed the top six.

Seventh was top rookie Nick Foster in the second West Surrey Racing BMW, while Liam Griffin and Jeff Smith rounded out the nine drivers to post a lap time – the latter running only in the afternoon and in a new livery that he will campaign during the season ahead.
