David Pinkney has confirmed that he will return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship for the 2011 season after agreeing a deal with Rob Austin Racing.
Pinkney, who campaigned a Vauxhall Vectra under his own Pinkney Motorsport banner last year, will drive one of the team's Audi A4s, which are being built to the BTCC's Next Generation Touring Car regulations.
The cars are currently in build with GPR Motorsport with the team hoping that the first car can makes its maiden public appearance at the annual BTCC media day at Silverstone next week.
“I have been in talks with Rob Austin Racing for a while now and I'm very excited to be on board with the Audi project," he said. "I think we have the right package to be running at the sharp end of the grid and I can't wait to get into the season.”
Team boss Rob Austin welcomed Pinkney into the team as the first man to sign up to drive one of the new Audis for the year ahead, with a second driver set to be confirmed in the near future.
“This is a great step for us," he said. "We needed an experienced driver and I am sure that Dave's expertise will help us to sort the new car and get us to the front of the pack.”
