Nash tops Donington practice

16 April 2011

James Nash posted the quickest time in practice for the second round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Brands Hatch.

Nash set a best lap of 1min 10.659secs in the second session as those cars running the NGTC-spec turbo engine dominated the times.

Nash was nearly three tenths of a second clear of Tom Chilton's Ford Focus – which was quickest through two of the three speed traps – with Tom Boardman an impressive third at the wheel of his Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon.

Andrew Jordan was fourth quickest, despite lapping slightly slower than in FP1 in his Pirtek Racing Vauxhall Vectra with Honda pair Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal rounding out the top six.

Mat Jackson was seventh quickest in his Airwaves Racing Focus with Alex MacDowall, Tony Gilham and Jeff Smith completing the top ten. MacDowall was the quickest driver running a normally-aspirated engine having gone noticeably quicker than he did at Donington last year.

Points leader Jason Plato was down in twelfth as he felt the effect of maximum ballast on his Chevrolet while further down the order, Frank Wrathall got ahead of two S2000 cars at the wheel of his NGTC-spec Toyota Avensis.

Rob Austin turned the first timed laps for his team's Audi A4 and was 22nd quickest.
