Honda pair pace Oulton practice

4 June 2011

Honda pair Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal set the pace in free practice for the latest rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park.

Shedden posted the quickest time of 1min 27.558secs during the first 40 minute session with Neal then setting the second fastest time of the morning en-route to P1 in the second session.

Behind the two Honda drivers, Alex MacDowall was third quickest at the wheel of his Chevrolet Cruze, with team-mate Jason Plato following behind in fourth. Paul O'Neill in his GoMobileUK.com with Tech-Speed Chevrolet was fifth fastest after a strong run in the second session, where he lapped more than a second quicker than he had done earlier in the morning.

Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan was sixth fastest ahead of Rob Collard and Mat Jackson; Collard being another driver to benefit from the lower base weight for the S2000 cars to run well inside the top ten.

Amongst the NGTC cars, the pace-setter in both sessions was the Audi A4 of Rob Austin, which has been fitted with a Lehmann-developed engine for this weekend and has undergone extensive weight-saving in the time since Thruxton last month. Power steering problems affected Frank Wrathall ahead of his home race as he failed to set a time in FP2. His time in the earlier session was the slowest of the morning.

Elsewhere, FP2 had to be red-flagged briefly after Jeff Smith's Vauxhall Vectra went of at Druids while the returning Lea Wood ground to a halt in his Honda Integra after losing power.
