Plato ends Honda pole run

18 June 2011

Jason Plato ended Honda's run of pole positions in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship after topping the times in qualifying at Croft.

The Silverline Chevrolet man left it late in the session before posting a quickest time of 1min 24.839secs, which allowed him to jump ahead of arch-rival Matt Neal. Neal himself had only just taken provisional pole from the West Surrey Racing BMW of Rob Collard moments before Plato crossed the line.

Alex MacDowall was fourth fastest as three normally aspirated cars filled the top four places, with the Vauxhalls of Andrew Jordan and James Nash completing the top six.

Elsewhere on the grid, Rob Austin was a hugely impressive eleventh quickest in his Audi – the best result to date for a car built to the NGTC-specification regulations – while Tom Onslow-Cole's return to Team Aon ended with the 15th quickest time on the grid.

Shaun Hollamby, back behind the wheel of the AmD Milltek Racing.com VW after Onslow-Cole's departure, was 21st fastest.
