Jordan to fight for Bathurst drive
28 June 2011
Andrew Jordan is to make the most of the summer break in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship to fight for the chance to compete in the Bathurst 1000 in October.
The Pirtek Racing driver is the only European driver to be selected to take part in the Shannons Supercar Showdown reality TV programme, where ten drivers will do battle to earn a drive with leading V8 Supercar Championship team Kelly Racing.
A series of eliminations will take place with one driver being knocked out of the competition each week before the winner is announced.
That driver will then join show host Grant Denyer behind the wheel of the Kelly Racing-run Shannons-Mars entry into the biggest race on the V8 schedule.
“I just can't believe the opportunity that these kids have got,” Todd Kelly said. “What must be going through their heads right now would be amazing.
“I remember getting the chance to go and join the Holden Racing Team when I was a 17 years old, and that was a long process of getting a test day and then eventually getting signed full-time. But one of these young drivers is going to get to drive at Bathurst in just a few months, so what this group has in front of them is a massive opportunity.
“We've been able to achieve one of our major goals with this project and that's giving young drivers their big break in motorsport. But to have it at this magnitude as part of a reality TV show with these talented young male and female drivers is unreal and as team we are so excited to be giving them this chance.”
Jordan's rivals for the prize drive include the V8 Supercar Championship safety car driver Amber Anderson, Australian Formula Ford front-runner Cameron Waters and eleven-time karting champion David Sera.
Jordan headed straight to Australia after the fifth round of the BTCC season at Croft to begin his stint on the show, with the show airing on Saturday afternoons on
from 23 July.
