Plato tops times at Brands Hatch

1 October 2011

Jason Plato has taken pole for the penultimate rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Brands Hatch after leading the way in qualifying on the full GP circuit.

Plato posted a time of 1min 31.874secs which was good enough to finish more than a quarter of a second clear of the Pirtek Racing Vectra of Andrew Jordan.

James Nash, winner last time out at Rockingham, was third quickest for Triple Eight with Alex MacDowall fourth in the second of the Chevrolets. Joint championship leaders Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal could only manage fifth and sixth for Honda and have work to do on race day to take the challenge to Plato in the race for the crown.

Mat Jackson was seventh fastest ahead of Airwaves Racing's home race weekend, while Paul O'Neill, Tom Onslow-Cole and Tom Chilton rounded out the top ten.

Dan Welch was an encouraging eleventh quickest in his Proton and best of the NGTC cars, with Frank Wrathall causing one of two Red Flags when he put his Toyota into the gravel at Clearways. The other red flag came after Chris James lost a wheel and suffered a spin at Hawthorn early on.

Ollie Jackson was best of the two newcomers in 15th overall for Triple Eight, with Chris Swanwick 27th in the second Rob Austin Racing Audi.
