Mat Jackson will travel to the BTCC Silverstone Finale still focussing on taking the title after a positive previous meeting in Brands Hatch following a dismal previous two rounds in Knockhill and Rockingham.
Jackson had previously thought his championship campaign was over after a nightmare couple of rounds in Knockhill and Rockingham saw him fail to score any points during the six races - aside from a single bonus point for a fastest lap - after leading the championship charge prior to Knockhill.
The Airwaves Racing man however took second places and a fifth during the three races at Brands Hatch putting himself and the team back in the championship fight where he feels they deserve.
“It was a good weekend for the team and puts us back in the challenge for the Championship, where we deserve to be," he said. "If I'm honest, I still feel frustrated. The car has been brilliant again all weekend as it has been all year but I just can't help to look back at Rockingham and Knockhill and think 'what if'."
Airwaves team manager Oly Collins expressed his 'relief', praising his driver after a turbulent couple of rounds.
“What a relief!" he said. "After the last two races weekends we almost forgot what it felt like to get on the podium. Mat was outstanding in all three races to get a great point's haul and keep us within a shout of the Championship going into the final."
Jackson is now only 17 points behind in the Independents' championship, trailing 888 Racing's James Nash.
However, he insisted he would be going all out for the overall championship regardless of the Independent Trophy.
“It's great that we're back in the title fight for Silverstone and I'm totally focussed on the overall Championship, it's still the one I want to win to the point where if it came down to it, I would race for the win even if it meant jeopardising the Independent title," he said. "I'll never settle for second best, I only ever race to win.”
