Pirtek in Civic switch for 2012

Pirtek Racing switches to Honda Civics for the 2012 BTCC season
Having announced plans to switch to NGTC-spec machinery for the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season, Pirtek Racing has now confirmed that it has agreed a deal to purchase two Honda Civics from Team Dynamics for the new campaign.

Dynamics is currently developing an NGTC-specification version of the latest generation Civic for the 2012 season, with the Eurotech-run Pirtek squad agreeing a deal to purchase two cars to be campaigned by Andrew Jordan and Jeff Smith in an unchanged driver line-up.

The deal marks a return to Honda machinery for the Pirtek Racing team, which previously ran ex-Dynamics Integras when it first stepped into the BTCC back in 2006 under the Eurotech banner, running the cars through until last season when it switched to the Vauxhall Vectra.

“This is the start of a new two-year partnership with Pirtek and that has given us the confidence and stability to make a major investment,” team boss Mike Jordan said. “We are delighted and excited to announce that we will run two new Civics to the Next Generation Touring Car regulations.

“We will have exactly the same car as Matt Neal. We looked seriously at several options for doing our own car, but we wanted the best car for the start of the new season. That's as good as it gets.

“I'm very pleased that Jeff has enjoyed his first BTCC season to the extent that he is stepping up to a new car as well. He has had what you would expect of a debut year in the BTCC and the aim for 2012 is for him to be a regular front-runner.”

Son Andrew, a winner on three occasions over the past two season, said he was delighted to have secured a drive in a Civic for the new campaign as he looks to launch a championship challenge.

“I'm very excited,” he said. “We've straight away put ourselves in the best car on the grid for next year. I'm looking forward to working with Team Dynamics; I think we'll work very well together and they will be very open with us. I think there will be quite a few envious people when they see that we are in the new Honda. I think it will be the best car on the grid. I'd like to think we'll be consistently near the front and consistency is something I want to concentrate on.”

Good move from Pirtek. The Vectra has served them well but now it's time to move on. Team Dynamics have made some great Hondas in the past, and so I think the new Civic will take over well from the current model, and they'll essentially be getting brand new factory-spec cars at the start of the season. Jeff Smith has done a decent job in my opinion, scoring a handful of points in his rookie season and giving the team plenty of money. Andy Jordan is the future of the BTCC, along with the likes of Nash and Wrathall, and I think the move to Honda will provide him with the opportunity to win plenty of races and maybe even mount a title challenge.

I wish Dynamics would go back to traditional red than the boring white. If the Honda NGTC car is as good as people think it is, it will blow everyone else away. Anyway the Team Pirtek Honda (Customer) will not be allowed to beat the Team Dynamics Honda (Works) on a normal day next year. Next I am waiting to start hearing Plato bleating on about the unfair speed of the Hondas and he can't keep up. RML are the works Chevrolet squad, so they have the capabilty to build a NGTC car. This year the Hondas, Vauxhalls and lately NGTC Toyotas all the turbo boost presure, but the Honda has got more power out of it and it is the only car that is getting punished by having more weight and less boost. The championship, Plato seems to think is only about him and nobody else.
