Top ten BTCC Drivers of the Year: 10th

He started the season helping to develop one car, and ended it developing another - Tom Onslow-Cole takes tenth in your BTCC Driver of the Year poll
Top 10 BTCC Drivers of the Year 2011:
10: Tom Onslow-Cole

Team: AmD Milltek Racing.com/Team Aon
Car: Volkswagen Golf/Ford Focus (Both S2000/NGTC)
Wins: 0
Podiums: 2
Championship points: 61
Championship position: 13th

Having been a contender for the BTCC title in 2010, Tom Onslow-Cole was faced with the possibility of missing out on a drive for 2011 before securing his place on the grid with second-year team AmD Milltek Racing.com.

The deal to drive the AmD's VW Golf came as a surprise, but only served to increase support for the small team as it looked to make forward progress up the field.

Although Onslow-Cole's campaign didn't start well when mechanical issues hit his first run in the car at Silverstone's Media Day, he showed encouraging speed at Brands Hatch before a hugely popular points finish followed at Donington Park – where he also briefly led race three before being punted off at the Old Hairpin.

Two further points finishes followed at Thruxton but the partnership would come to an end in round four at Oulton Park, where Onslow-Cole departed before the final race having told the team of his plans to move back to Team Aon.

The switch to the new 'Global' Ford Focus wouldn't be easy and it wasn't until the penultimate meeting of the campaign at Brands Hatch that he was able to take his first podium finish of the year.

A similar result followed at Silverstone on Finals Day to leave Onslow-Cole 13th in the championship standings and while his results with Aon maybe didn't match expectations, the way in which he helped to move the Golf forwards in his time with AmD showed that he remains a class act behind the wheel.
