Onslow-Cole rejoins WSR

Tom Onslow-Cole returns to WSR for the 2012 BTCC season
Tom Onslow-Cole is to rejoin West Surrey Racing for the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season as part of an expanded three-car team.

Onslow-Cole will partner WSR's 2011 driver pairing Rob Collard and Nick Foster in the new look line-up, with the team again running the BMW 320si but now under the eBay Motors banner.

All three cars will be fitted with NGTC-spec turbo engines being developed by Neil Brown Engineering – the same company responsible for the engines fitted to the Honda Racing and Pirtek Racing Honda Civics.

“I believe eBay Motors has a very strong driver line-up for this year's championship,” team boss Dick Bennetts said. “We have worked with Rob, Nick and Tom in the past and together they make a fantastic team. We have been busy developing the cars over the winter, which will have new BMW turbo-charged engines developed by Neil Brown Engineering. With the prospect of added horsepower and torque alongside our in-depth understanding of the BMW chassis, we are expecting a very competitive season.”

Onslow-Cole said he was thrilled to be returning to the team that carried him to his maiden BTCC win back in 2007.

“I'm excited to be joining eBay Motors for the 2012 season and to again be part of the WSR team with such a history of success,” he said. “This season I am looking to challenge for regular podiums as we certainly have the car to be at the front of the grid. I am counting down the days until the new season and can't wait to get started at Brands Hatch.”

Keep the sponsers happy use a model that being different from the rest appears to guarantee lots of TV air time at every round on the grid, will they make a better start, will they come into their optimum performance at the end of the event etc etc Exposure wise i would think Ebay are quiet pleased.

WSR's cars are no older than a number of the WTCC BMWs or the Geoff Steel cars that were used last year, the main difference is that WSR chose to use the old aero package. WSR have also fitted their own bits to the cars in previous years that they have developed themselves so it's not as if the cars are still as they were when they built them in 2007. With fitting the turbo engine they are effectively doing what the WTCC teams did last year with the turbo and starting again, so you can pretty much forget how they went last year. I think that they stand a strong chance of the Independent titles, the BMW will be a lot stronger than it was last year and they could be the team most likely to take it to Honda and MG.
