Rob Austin has confirmed that he will race his team's second Audi A4 in the opening rounds of the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season this weekend at Brands Hatch.
Although the team had placed two cars on the entry list revealed at the annual media day at Silverstone last week, the only confirmed driver was sportscar racer Mark Hazell – who will join the BTCC after two seasons away from competition.
Both Austin and youngster Chris Swanwick have been working on deals for the second car, with Austin now getting behind the wheel for the opening event of the campaign.
With the car having undergone extensive work during the off-season, the team boss insisted he was going to the Kent circuit with only one aim.
“If I didn't think I could win at Brands I wouldn't bother doing it,” he told the official series website BTCC.net
. “I learnt a lot about what the BTCC is all about on track last year and after our test last week at Rockingham I know just how good our Audi now is – we've totally rebuilt it and the 2012-spec car is a major step forward from 2011's.
“I really believe it can be right in the hunt this weekend."
Austin took a best finish of second at Rockingham last season.
