Team ES Racing will hope to build on the pace shown at the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship's recent media day at Silverstone when the new season gets underway this weekend at Brands Hatch.

Dave Newsham topped the times on the media day at the wheel of his turbo-powered Vauxhall Vectra as ES surprised the bigger teams during the only official test session held before the season opener.

The former Special Tuning driver now heads into the opening three races of the year keen to try and challenge for a place on the podium having quickly got up to speed with his former Triple Eight-run car.

"Before driving the car I was thinking we would be aiming for reverse grid podiums," he said. "Now I think we can go to Brands Hatch aiming for outright podiums from outright speed, rather than relying on the reverse grid."

Team boss Chris James is also optimistic of a solid start to the new season as he seeks to score points in the BTCC for the first time.

"We're looking forward to getting out on track and seeing what we can do," he said. "Dave proved at media day that we have the pace to run at the front and we'll be looking to emulate that at Brands Hatch.

"The team has done a fantastic job in the lead-up to Brands Hatch with all the preparation work put in to ensure the cars will be running smoothly out of the box."
