Jordan leads Brands Hatch practice

Andrew Jordan quickest after two practice sessions for the BTCC season opener at Brands Hatch
Andrew Jordan set the quickest time during free practice for the opening rounds of the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.

At the wheel of his new NGTC-spec Honda Civic, the Pirtek Racing driver led the way in the second session with a best time of 48.639secs which was enough to beat the similar car of Matt Neal by three-tenths of a second.

Rob Collard was third quickest in his turbo-charged eBay Motors BMW 320si with his pace-setting time from the first session – finishing up just 0.002secs clear of his team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole, who was third quickest in the second session.

Rob Austin impressed in both sessions at the wheel of his Audi A4 – the only one entered this weekend after Mark Hazell elected to delay his debut until he has spent more time in the car – with the fifth quickest time, while the MG of Jason Plato rounded out the top six.

Having not set a representative time in the first session, Plato set the fifth best time in FP2 as the majority of the field – Collard aside – improve on their times.

Mat Jackson was seventh fastest in his Ford Focus, closely followed by team debutant Aron Smith, with Dave Newsham and Jeff Smith rounding out the top ten on the combined times.

The two sessions weren't without problems however, with Gordon Shedden suffering an electrical issue that meant he was unable to set a quick time and John Thorne putting his Vauxhall Insignia into the barriers during FP1 after suffering a brake bias problem going into Paddock Hill Bend.

Ollie Jackson also suffered two trips through the Paddock Hill gravel trap although without causing an major damage to the AmD Tuning.com VW, while Tony Hughes missed the first session with a electrical glitch.
