Newsham tops Donington practice
Dave Newsham topped the times in free practice for the second round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Donington Park.

The Team ES Racing driver led the way in the second session and was the only man to lap below 1min 11secs as he beat defending champion Matt Neal to the fastest time of the morning, Jason Plato continued the strong early pace of the new MG6 by ending the morning practice sessions third fastest.

Andrew Jordan was fourth quickest ahead of Mat Jackson, who had earlier topped the opening session at the wheel of his Redstone Racing-run Ford Focus. Gordon Shedden, Rob Austin and Aron Smith rounded out the top eight.

The two sessions didn't pass without issues, with both being affected by red flags. FP1 had to be halted when Rob Collard lost the back end of his eBay BMW heading into the Old Hairpin and went into the gravel on the outside of the circuit, while FP2 was halted when Adam Morgan's Speedworks Toyota went off on the inside of the same bend.

Nick Foster failed to set a time in FP1 as he was uncomfortable in his new seat while Tony Hughes then failed to set a time in FP2 with an oil leak.
