Redstone Racing team manager Oly Collins has predicted that an interesting weekend lies ahead as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads for Thruxton for the third round of the year.

The team was right on the pace at Donington last time out, with Mat Jackson winning twice on the road only to lose victory in the final race of the weekend due to a technical infringement.

Jackson will hope to repeat his front-running pace at the quickest track on the schedule but Collins said it could largely come down to the conditions faced on track and how the different spec cars cope with their tyres around the abrasive circuit.

"Thruxton will be an interesting weekend because balance of performance between different cars will come into play," he said. "We anticipate if the weather's fine then the NGTC cars will have an advantage in race trim due to their wider tyres, plus despite Donington Park's exclusion we are still carrying second place ballast on Mat's car.

"For us, Thruxton will most likely be a consolidation round in which we aim to grab as many points as possible. We may also pray for a spot of rain!"

Jackson himself agreed that, weather aside, the issue of tyres could be the deciding factor.

"Last time out we had big highs and lows, and it was a shame to leave on a disappointing note after being excluded from race three," the Ford man said. "At Thruxton it will be interesting to see how the NGTC cars perform with different tyres to us. It's a track that always throws a few surprises so we'll see what happens!"
